Behind The Masks

When Slipknot was originally founded in 1995, the line-up comprised Shawn “Clown” Crahan (percussionist), Joey Jordison (drummer), and Paul Gray (Bassist). However, throughout the years, the band’s ranks have changed dramatically, reaching nine members at its peak. The latecomers include the likes of Donnie Steele (guitars and bass), Josh “Gnar” Brainard (guitars and backing vocals), Anders Colsefni (lead vocals and percussion), Greg “Cuddles” Welts (percussion and backing vocals), Brandon Darner (percussion and backing vocals), Chris Fehn (percussion and backing vocals), Craig “133” Jones (keyboards and guitars), Mick Thomson (guitars), Corey Taylor (lead vocals), Sid Wilson (turntables and keyboard), Jim Root (guitars), Alessandro Venturella (bass and keyboards), Jay Weinberg (drums), and Michael “Tortilla Man” Pfaff (percussion and backing vocals).

Hailing from Iowa, the heavy-metal band has established itself as one of the greatest ensembles in the history of music. They have released multiple studio albums — Slipknot (1999), Iowa (2001), Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses (2004), All Hope Is Gone (2008), .5: The Grey Chapter (2014), and We Are Not Your Kind (2019) — and garnered praise as a result of their remarkable stage presence. Notably, they are recognized for their incorporation of stylized masks, which have encompassed everything from clowns to gas masks.

To this day, the band remains one of the most influential of its kind, having sold more than 30 million albums and received many Grammy nominations (one of which they won). This comes as no surprise, as they have released some of the greatest songs of the last few decades: “Wait And Bleed”, “Duality”, “Psychosocial”, “Eyeless”, and “Surfacing” — among others.
